Yellow Tip

Ku (9th) Kyu
Master:

1.  Kata:  Short 1
2.  Upper Bodies 1-4.
3.  Front kick.
4.  Stances:  Attention, Horse, Ready, Seisan.
Memorize:
5.  Bible verses (please use only approved translation):
        Proverbs 1:7
        Proverbs 3:5 & 6
6.  Japanese Karate' words:
Karate'     =    empty hands
Dojo    =    karate’ school or training hall 
Sensei    =    black belt instructor
Gi    =    karate' uniform
Obi    =    karate' belt
Kiai!    =    karate’ yell
Iasou wa shu nari      =    “Jesus is Lord.”
Karate' ni sente nashi  =   "Karate' is for defense only."

Yellow Belt

Hachi (8th) kyu
I. Master
Mastery is comprehensive. You are expected to know all that you’ve previously learned.
1.  Katas:  Short 1 with offense, seisan mini kata
2.  Stances:  a) Kibi dachi (horse), b) Seisan dachi (fighting), 
c) musubi dachi (attention) d) Yoi or ready position.
3.  Upper Bodies 1-9.
4.  Kicks:  a) front, b) back, c) side.
II. Memorize
5.  Terminology:
Isshinryu    =    Our style of karate’, word means “one heart way”
Bunkai  =   explanation of kata or technique 
Dachi   =   stance
Rei  =   bow
Hajime  =   begin
Yamae  =   stop
Kiai   =  A gutteral yell from the diaphragm intended to:  a) intimidate the opponent,
b) tighten 
the stomach, and c) expel air from the lungs.
Kata  =  A choreographed series of movements designed to simulate a fight, usually of ancient origin.

7.  Color belt (Kyu) system: 10th ju-white, 9th ku- yellow tip, 8th hachi- yellow, 7th sichi- orange, 6th roku -blue, 5th go- green, 4th shi-purple, 3rd san- brown + 2 stripes, 2nd ni- brown + 1 stripe, 1st sho- brown (no stripes)

Orange Belt

Sichi (7th) Kyu
I. Master:
Mastery is comprehensive. You are expected to know all that you’ve previously learned.
1.  Katas:  Seisan kata with form and focus.
2.  Upper Bodies 1-15.
3.  Kicks:  a) front, b) side, c) back, d) roundhouse.
4.  Stances:  a) Kibi dachi, b) Seisan dachi, c) Musubi dachi, d) Heiko Dachi or Yoi,  e) Neko ashi dachi, 
f) L-stance, g) Kosa dachi, h) Heisoku Dachi
