Hachi (8th) kyu I. Master Mastery is comprehensive. You are expected to know all that you’ve previously learned. 1. Katas: Short 1 with offense, seisan mini kata 2. Terminology: Isshinryu = Our style of karate’, word means “one heart way” Bunkai = explanation of kata or technique Dachi = stance Rei = bow Hajime = begin Yamae = stop Kiai = A gutteral yell from the diaphragm intended to: a) intimidate the opponent, b) tighten the stomach, and c) expel air from the lungs. Kata = A choreographed series of movements designed to simulate a fight, usually of ancient origin. 6.
